NEWS & EVENTS 1998-Fall Edition
The "Rockdale Community Festival" was a total success - feedback from residents and attendees was very positive. A sincere "Thank You!" to all those who volunteered to work that day and a special thanks to Meade Electric and Waste Management for their donations. If this is to become an annual event, with more offerings next year, we will need additional volunteers. Please consider being a volunteer for 1999s event. We will work with your time schedule and try to get you the job you would like to do. If interested, call Nancy at 725-1434.
A piece of Rockdale History will be hanging in the village hall meeting room thanks to Helen Karl. Helen loaned us a picture that was taken in May of 1911, containing the Village Officials of the period. Stop by and take a look. Thanks, Helen!
More CANDY? Rockdales Halloween hours were extended an additional half hour this year. The Board voted to extend the hours after a request by grade school student Matthew Rex, who was at a board meeting last fall to voice students concerns. The new hours are 3:30pm--6pm - matching Joliets hours and giving our children a little extra time to trick or treat.
Village Curfew Reminder - Parents be reminded that there is a curfew in the Village for those less than 17 years of age. Curfew hours are: Sunday --Thursday 9:00 p.m. , Friday & Saturday 10:00 p.m. The curfew will be enforced.
Our Herald News reporter, unfortunately, has quit and no replacements have been made. She had submitted reports regularly on all of the Village Board meetings, but The Herald News had chosen not to print many of her Village reports. If you liked seeing reports of the Village meetings in the paper, let the Herald News know of your disappointment.
Otis Avenue storm sewer project has been completed. A new overlay of asphalt was put down to cover the old and new sections of road. The village wishes to thank all of the residents for their patience and tolerance during the project.
Senior Day has been going great and there are only 2 more scheduled for this year (Sept. 10 & Oct. 8). Senior day is designed for those 55 and older and is at 5:30 p.m. in the Village Hall meeting room. For more information on upcoming events, call Nancy at 725-1434.
Business Registration is now the law in Rockdale and every business is required to register on an annual basis. The yearly registration fee of $10 was waived for 1998, however the 1999 registrations are due by December 31st 1998 and the $10 fee is required. Forms are available in the Clerk's Office. For more information call the clerks office at 725-8937.
Unexpected problems with the water tower, located at the Village hall grounds, have been corrected. A leak was found in the casement piping that runs over 300 below ground repairs were completed and all is back to normal.
With Fall upon us, a reminder that Leaf Burning is allowed in the village from Oct. 1 Nov. 30.
Please be careful and have a water supply available at all times.

Schools Open Please Drive Carefully For those residents who are unaware, the school busses now unload children on Connel St. rather than Meadow Ave. This should help the flow of traffic, however, the speed limit remains at 20mph while children are present.
