The Rockdale Review

NEWS & EVENTS 1998-Winter Edition

A sincere "Thank You" to Frank Minarich, Jr., for his creative input and labor in decorating the Village Hall during the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays.

The "Rockdale Community Festival - 1999" is now being planned. If you have any ideas or would like to volunteer, please call Nancy at 725-1434 or Sam at 729-2963.

Any History Buffs who have information on the past mayors and village officials that have served our village, please contact Nancy at 725-1434. The Board is interested in collecting dates, names, and information about Rockdale’s past. We hope to compile this history for the future generations of our Village to enjoy and learn from. Please help us if you can.

With Halloween being on a Sunday next year, plans are in the works for a Halloween parade to precede the trick or treat hours. Watch for further info.

Animals get cold too – Please remember that cold weather can harm or kill a pet, even those with a thick coat. Illinois law states that every owner must provide adequate fresh water, continuous food (to build fat and fight the cold) and shelter & protection from the weather (both wind and cold). Please contact the Police, or Nancy at 725-1434, if you suspect any abuse/neglect to an animal in the Village. Calls will stay confidential.

Business Registration is now the law in Rockdale and every business is required to register on an annual basis. The yearly registration fee of $10 was waived for 1998, however the 1999 registrations are due by December 31st 1998 and the $10 fee is required. Forms are available in the Clerk's Office. For more information call the clerks office at 725-8937.

Important Phone Numbers…

Reminder: 1999 Village Stickers can be purchased at the Village Hall at a cost of $7.50 (cars), however, after January 1st, the cost goes up. If purchased after March 1st, an additional $25 is added and if you receive a ticket the cost increases another $6. Be smart – buy now.

From the office of the Chief of Police…

  • Once again we are fast approaching the Holiday Season, and this means parties, and of course alcohol, too. Many of us indulge to some degree, but we have to remember that Illinois’ limit is now .08 and it doesn’t take to long to achieve this level. So if and when you do drink, remember to have a designated driver, for the safety of you, your passengers, and the general public.
  • Senior Day ended for the year with a Cajun soup dinner prepared by Trustee Paul Shimek. Many newcomers were at the year-end event and we hope to see them along with many new faces when we start up again in March, 1999. See you all then!!!

A special "Thank You" to Grace Luebs, Barbara Wilkins, Nancy Kurpaitis and Sam Wyke for their continuous monthly help in making Senior Day a success. Without their support it couldn’t have been done! Again, "Thanks".

Street lights in our village have a purpose and we strive to make sure that they are working properly at all times. If you notice a problem with a street light or have a concern about one, call Trustee Sam Wyke at 729-2963.

On behalf of the Rockdale Village Board, Police Department, Village Employees and the Fire Protection District – we wish all Rockdale residents and businesses…

    A Safe,

    Happy, and Joyful

    Holiday Season !
