The Rockdale Review

NEWS & EVENTS Fall, 1999

In order to capture our past for future generations to enjoy, we have started a Village Picture Album. The album has different types of information and pictures in it so that years from now residents can look back and see what was accomplished and what was important on that date in history. Got anything of interest or any ideas in this area, call Nancy at 725-1434.

Thank You to Jeff & Lynn Woodard for their wonderful pictures of the Memorial Day Parade. They have been placed in the Village Album. Stop in to see them.

Thanks also to the John Becker Family (Meadow Ave.) for the old abstract they found in their basement when they purchased their home.

One more Thanks to the William Waznis Family for the War Mothers Flag which was purchased by Bill at an auction recently. He donated it to the village and it is standing proudly in the Village Hall for all to see.

We sadly announce the resignation of our Village Attorney, James Babcock, who recently resigned due to health reasons. We wish Jim and his family all of the best and thank him whole-heartedly for the dedication and commitment he has given to the village interests. He will truly be missed.

The firm of Spesia, Ayers and Ardaugh has been appointed to represent the village and Elizabeth Dow will represent the Village in all legal matters. Welcome to our family, Elizabeth.

At the first Village Board meeting in August, a check for $4,500 was presented to the Village Board and to the Rockdale Police Department from the Taylor Pirc Foundation for the purchase of a video camera to be installed in a police squad car. Rockdale was picked through a lottery process to be the first town in Will County to receive a camera. The Foundation hopes that with the video cameras in the squad cars, helpful evidence will be produced to insure that traffic offenses lead to convictions.

The Police Bike Patrol has been in effect for much of the summer months with Officer Art Huffstutler riding through the streets and alleys. It has been met with praise from the residents and Chief Baum agrees that the interaction with the residents has been very positive. The bike patrols will continue until inclement weather forces a shutdown (No Snow tires have been ordered yet!)

Thanks to Chrystal Baker, this newsletter will be reaching additional residents that don’t receive a water bill. An 11 year old student at Rockdale School, Chrystal collected names from tenant families that had not been receiving newsletters in the past. Thanks again Chrystal, great job! If you know of someone who currently doesn’t get this newsletter, have them drop off their name at the Village Hall. The newsletter is free to all residents.

We had a good group of Summer help this year who were complimented at a recent Village Board meeting. The village has looked great all summer and the crew practiced safety with pride. We wish them the best as they settle back to their alternate routines.

With Fall close by, we wish to reminder residents that leaf burning is allowed from 10/1/99 to 11/30/99. Please DO NOT BURN leaves on the streets. Also, the last day of Leaf Bag pickup will be November 30.

A heartfelt "Thanks" to Beth and Insty-Prints for their help during the year, not only for our newsletters, but also for filling in at the last moment when our copy machine failed during the Village Garage sale.

Comment sheets will be sent out to those who participated in the village garage sales to find out when and how many we should sponsor during the year. Your opinions are important and appreciated. Please drop off forms at the Village Hall or voice your opinion by calling Nancy at 725-1434.

From our Public Works Department…

  • The Village of Rockdale Water Department will be delivering its first Consumer Confidence Report to its customers in October. The report lists data on the quality of the supply’s drinking water.

The issuance of this report is a result of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1996, which was passed by Congress. Every public water supply in the nation is required to meet this requirement whether the supply has any contaminants in its finished water or not. Customers will receive this report on an annual basis.

If you have any questions after reviewing the Consumer Confidence Report, more information may be obtained by calling the USEPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 or James Planinsek at 744-1734.

  • A Reminder from our Police Chief…

  • School is Open and our children are going to and coming from school.

    Please drive Safely!

    Remember, School Zones are 20mph
