Pets and Animals

Information

Containment

Pets must be fenced, tied or on a leash.  No pets are allowed to run loose in the Village. Please make sure your pets cannot reach public sidewalks or the area where your mail carriers leave your mail.

Clean-Up

Walking your dog is a normal and fun task, but please remember it is a common courtesy to pick up any unwanted “gifts” that your pet may have deposited for unsuspecting neighbors.

Pet Care

Illinois Bureau of Animal Welfare states that every pet owner must provide for his/her animals continuous, quality food & water and sufficient shelter & protection that keeps them out of the direct sun, rain or cold conditions. Please contact the Police if you suspect any abuse/neglect. Non-emergency number is 725-2171.

I.D. Tags

Remember, if your pet is lost and has an identification tag an Officer can return him/her to the owner.  Please get an I.D. tag so that we can bring your pets home to you quickly and without cost.

Skunks

The Village continues to address skunk concerns through the use of a private firm that works for the Village. Contact the Clerk to make any necessary arrangements.

Skunk Contact

If your pet does come into contact with a skunk, a solution other than tomato juice is being recommended by Paul Krebaum, a chemist with Molex, Inc., Lisle, Illinois.  The formula is comprised of simple ingredients – 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, ¼ cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap.  Normal bathing procedures should be used to protect the pet’s eyes.  Following application, the solution should be rinsed off the pet with tap water. Please DO NOT TRY TO STORE THE SOLUTION or keep any excess solution after use.

Sidewalk Replacement Program

Information

Residents wishing to install or replace sidewalks may be interested in our 50/50 price sharing program.  The Village has an agreed-upon price from a specific contractor to do sidewalk replacements in the Village. Residents pay half the cost and the Village picks up the other half.

Contact Village Clerk for additional information.
